My name is Catherine Balkin and I am the founder of Balkin Buddies. My husband was in the World Trade Center on 9/11 and this is our story. Knowing how important primary sources are to educators teaching history units, I used to send out our account of what happened to us to teachers, librarians, and researchers upon request as an attachment in emails. However, in 2009, the number of requests was so high, I could hardly keep up to the demand. Therefore, I decided to post it on this website so I could simply refer people to iit.
You are free to share this account with your students or quote from it as needed. We do not require that you ask us for permission in advance and there is no charge to use it. We have no wish to profit from 9/11 in any way.
Please be aware that there are some graphic scenes of what occurred that day and you should review it before sharing it with your students to make sure they can handle it.
