CONFERENCES

Although he has a very heavy writing and speaking schedule, Avi tries to make time for author appearances, especially for conferences to teachers, librarians, booksellers and other large groups. Please read the article on this website in the 'Arrange an Appearance' section --- some of it was taken from Avi's writings about author appearances and may be very useful to conference organizers. SCHOOL VISITS

Avi still does school visits, and he's particularly interested in places he has not been to before. Due to a very tight speaking and writing schedule, though, he is available for school visits on a very limited basis. Please provide at least three dates, in order of preference, when asking if he can do any visit.

Grade Levels: He is comfortable and experienced with student audiences from grades 4 through high school (most of his books are for these grade levels).

PROGRAM CONTENT

Avi has recently changed his program content from dramatic readings to more traditional presentations. Although he could still give dramatic readings upon request, he also offers presentations that address subjects brought up in his books; he talks about the writing process, including the differences in writing in various genres (he has written short stories, biographies, historical fiction, adventure stories, ghost stories, biocritical studies, comedy, drama, mysteries, fantasy, adventure, etc.), and the differences in writing for various age levels (he has written picture books, early readers, middle grade readers, young adult). He can also discuss his own background, the publishing process from manuscript to finished book, or talk to a topic or theme of the conference.

Grade Levels: He can speak to librarians, teachers or other educators who work with all ages from kindergarten to young adult. He is comfortable with any age range.

Size of Each Session: Large or small audiences, Avi is comfortable with them all.

Equipment Needs: Microphone, table and chair, drinking water.

Number of Sessions Per Day and Program Length: Three one-hour sessions per day, plus autographing

Advance Schedule: Please be sure to give him in advance a complete schedule of what you expect from him during the visit.

Advance Preparation: It is helpful if the audience is familiar with some of this work. A prepared audience is a more enthusiastic audience.

Avi's honorarium is somewhat flexible depending on circumstances. Therefore, please call 718-857-7605 to describe what you have in mind and to get a quote on what his rate would be.

The honorarium is due following the last presentation on the last day.
